Illinois State is home to the Redbirds. Men and women compete in basketball, golf, and tennis. Other sports include baseball, football, soccer, softball, and track and field. The University’s Hancock Stadium is committed to keeping football fans “on top of the game,” bringing students and alumni as close to the action as possible. Recent improvements include artificial turf and an updated sound system. Redbird Arena, home to the University’s basketball teams, is also quite a sight. The Arena is still undergoing improvements, and soon to be added are a strength and conditioning area, club rooms, and the Hall of Fame.
Illinois State University is an NCAA Division I school, with baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, tennis, track & field for men and basketball, cross-country, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track & field, and volleyball for women. The team nickname is the Redbirds. Support activities include a cheerleading squad, a dance team, and a marching band.
Sports facilities include a golf course, a stadium, a field house, a pool, a track facility, a soccer field, a baseball field, a gymnasium, and an arena.
